FAQ

Before using the grinder, we recommend you grinding 20 grams of roasted coffee beans on the initial setting (0) and throwing the coffee away. This step will get rid of any residue oils remaining on the burrs from the manufacturing process test grind.

Unscrew the Counter-Screw to unlock the Adjustment Wheel, after doing this step, turn the adjustment dial clockwise for a finer grind and counterclockwise for a coarser grind

To clean your grinder, remove the bottom coffee container, use a dry brush and gently brush the outside of the burrs or wipe them clean with a dry cotton cloth or paper towel. You can use the same technic for your coffee container.

We recommend cleaning your grinder after each use.

What grinder settings are suitable for different brewing methods?

• 40-50 clicks - ibrik/cezve
• 60-80 clicks - speciality espresso (we recommend a total shot time between 18 and 24 seconds, including preinfusion)
• 80-120 clicks - moka pot
• 120-160 clicks - Aeropress, cupping grind size, electric filter coffee makers
• 160-220 clicks - pour over (Hario V60, Kalita Wave, Chemex, April Brewer, etc.)
• 220-300 clicks - French press.

The grinder is suitable for grinding spices. However, it must be cleaned afterwards, as it will otherwise taint the taste of your coffee!

The main difference between the two finishes is just the look.

Ousia Grinder Contemporary Matte has a matte finish, it’s not at all slippery, giving you a firm grip. In time little superficial scratches may be visible on it, adding patina and character..

Ousia Grinder Vintage Glam has a high-sheen finish, it's bright and reflective, glistening in the light, being slightly more slippery than the matte finish. It’s also less prone to scratches.

Your Ousia coffee grinder is expected to last for many decades.

If you use the grinder every day, the burrs will need to be replaced after 12-15 years, depending on the total coffee quantity and they can be replaced in our workshop for a fee.

We offer afive-year warranty covering parts and artistry.

If the burrs get blocked you should remove the Coffee container and try to hold in place the burr carrier with one hand and rotate the handle counterclockwise with the other one.

Yes, it is possible to get spare and replacement parts for your grinder.

If you want to replace the main body, the burrs or the tripods you will need to send your grinder to our workshop.

Yes, but if the damaged is caused by the following events:

  • Immersing your grinder in water or any other liquid
  • Dropping, crushing, scratching your grinder
  • Freeze your grinder
  • Expose the grinder to extreme temperatures (above 50° C or lower than 1° C)
  • Exposure the grinder to a laser beam

In any of the above cases the warranty will be void and it will add additional costs to repair the grinder.
